My womens handbag is the most basic of my small drawstring bag patterns. This is an ideal design for a beginner to learn how to make a drawstring bag.
It is a tiny purse often used as a drawstring gift bag, or filled with potpourri.
As with all my small drawstring bag patterns, my womens handbag design may be increased in size to whatever measurements best suit your purpose. Simply work more base and height rows until you have the handbag size you desire.
You may wish to line your womens handbag with fabric. If so, this is easy enough to do.
Cut a round piece of fabric slightly larger than the base and a rectangular piece the same height as the bag and twice the width. Machine sew the two shorter sides of the rectangular piece together with wrong sides facing. Sew the rectangular piece around the edge of the circular piece of fabric easing to fit. Hem the top edge. Turn so that joins face the inside and hand sew the top of the lining to the inside of your womens handbag, below the drawstring.
You may elongate the twisted cord if you wish, to make a shoulder strap or a carry handle. Just pull a loop up at the back of your women's handbag when you thread the twisted cord through the spaces in the purse pattern.
