Scorpio

The Scorpio symbol is the eighth zodiac sign spanning the period from 24th October to 22nd November.

With the Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, and Libra, complete, it's time for crocheting and attaching the rest of your zodiac signs to your granny square motifs.

If you've decided not to display zodiac signs, but to use monogrammed letters, Christmas motifs, or flowers instead, now is the time for you to be crocheting and attaching them to your granny square motifs.

Not decorating your cream motifs at all? This is the time for you to finish crocheting all of the granny squares, so you will be ready to assemble your crochet bedspread motifs and add your chosen edging.

If the terminology used in this zodiac bedspreads instructions differs from what you're used to, check my equivalency tables for easy conversion.

If you are a beginner and need help to learn to crochet stitches, my "CROCHET MADE EASY" e-book, will teach you to crochet bedspread patterns and all of my free projects, using easy to follow instructions and photographs, showing step by step how to work all the crochet stitches you need. More information on my e-book contents page.

This horoscope symbol comprises the letter "M" with a stinger tail, representing male sexuality and a scorpion.

Scorpio Horoscope Sign

Use any leftover twisted cord from your Libra horoscope sign to make your Scorpio horoscope sign. You will need a total of three twisted cords [the length given below] to make the twelve horoscope star signs [if you're working your crochet bedspread motifs the same size as mine]. If you're making your squares smaller, you may need to adjust the thickness of your twisted cord, and the number required - If your bedspreads motifs are half the size of mine, use half the amount of yarn.

Materials: 1 100g ball 8 ply synthetic burgundy yarn, knitting needle, sewing needle, burgundy sewing thread, elastic threader or small safety pin.

Twisted Cord Lengths: 4 strands x 4.5 metres [180ins] long.

Print out the 11.5cm x 12.75cm [4.6ins x 5.1ins] Scorpio pdf file, the 7cm x 8.25cm [2.8ins x 3.3ins] pdf, or the 4.5cm x 4.75cm [1.8ins x 1.9ins] pdf, depending on the size of your bedspreads motifs.

Carefully cut out the Scorpio horoscope sign. You will need to sticky tape the outer edge to mend the Scorpio template. Trim, position, and pin the template in the center of your cream square as you did with the Aries template.

Attach elastic threader or small safety pin to one end of your twisted cord.

Step 1: Working from the back of your cream square, thread your twisted cord from back to front, between the stitches at the lower left tip of the Scorpio symbol. Pull through until the knot sits firmly against the back of your motif. Position and pin the twisted cord into place, inside your Scorpio template, forming the first stroke of the letter "M". Thread your twisted cord from front to back, through your cream square, at the beginning of the first stroke of the letter "M".

Pin or tack in place.

Step 2: Thread your twisted cord from back to front, through your cream square, at the beginning of the first shoulder of the letter "M".

Position and pin the twisted cord into place, inside your Scorpio template, forming the second stroke of the letter "M".
Step 3: Thread your twisted cord from front to back between the stitches at the end of this stroke.

Thread the twisted cord from back to front at the lower right tip of the letter "M".

Form the tail of the letter "M", and thread your twisted cord from front to back at the point where the second shoulder of the letter "M" begins.

Knot your twisted cord firmly, so that the knot sits snugly against the back of your cream square. Make another knot approximately 2cm [.75ins] from the previous knot. Cut between knots.

Step 4: Thread your twisted cord from back to front at the lower right tip of the scorpion's tail [the arrow-like section]. Pull through until the knot sits firmly against the back of your motif. Position the twisted cord into place, inside your Scorpio template. Thread your, twisted cord from front to back of your motifs at the point of the arrow.

Step 5: Thread your, twisted cord from back to front of your motifs at the top edge of the arrow.

Step 6: Thread your, twisted cord from front to back of your motifs at the same point of the arrow as in Step 4.

Knot your twisted cord firmly, so that the knot sits snugly against the back of your cream square. Make another knot approximately 2cm [.75ins] from the previous knot. Cut between knots.

Use any remaining cord to form the next horoscope sign [Sagittarius].

Remove your template. Using your sewing needle and burgundy thread, carefully stitch your Scorpio horoscope motifs into place.

Once you've finished attaching your Scorpio horoscope motifs, continue crocheting your cream granny squares, dusty pink granny squares, and any remaining mixed granny squares.

When all granny squares are complete, you may assemble your rug and finish it off with a decorative edging.
