This baby hat pattern is created using just a few basic stitches. With one ball of yarn and a hook, you can create this simple useful gift. This pattern is ideal for beginners. Make it your starting project, and with the confidence you gain, move on to my blanket and booties patterns.

Do not turn hat or join rounds unless otherwise stated.Work Popcorn stitch so that bump is on right side.
Work 5ch, join with ss to form a ring.
1st Round: 5ch, work 15dtr into ring. Join with a ss into 5th of initial 5ch.
2nd Round: 1ch, 2tr between each stitch to end. Place stitch marker. [32sts.]
3rd Round: 1tr in each tr to end. Place stitch marker [32sts]
4th Round: [2tr in next tr, tr in next tr] all around. Place stitch marker. [48tr]
5th – 7th Round: Repeat 3rd Round. [48tr]
8th Round: Repeat 4th Round. [72tr]
9th – 16th Round: Repeat 3rd Round. [72tr]
17th Round: Join with a sl st, 1ch, turn hat. Dc in same st. Popcorn in next st. [dc in next st. popcorn in next st] all around. Join with ss in 1st ch. Fasten off.
You may wish to add a twisted cordwhich can be threaded through 34 stitches across the back of the hat, and tied under the baby’s chin. You could also decorate the top peak with a pompom, crochet flower, or rosette, or monogram initial.
