My handmade bag doubles as a coin purse that you can drop into a larger tote bag.
This free purse pattern is very easy to make as well as very attractive.
The shell pattern works very well on this compact design.
It is also a good pattern for a beginner to learn how to make a purse.
You may elongate the twisted cord if you wish, to make a shoulder strap or a carry handle. Just pull a loop up at the back of your bag when you thread the twisted cord through the spaces in the purse pattern.

You may wish to line your handmade bag. with fabric. If so, this is easy enough to do.
Cut a round piece of fabric slightly larger than the base and a rectangular piece the same height as the bag and twice the width. Machine sew the two shorter sides of the rectangular piece together with wrong sides facing. Sew the rectangular piece around the edge of the circular piece of fabric easing to fit. Hem the top edge. Turn so that joins face the inside and hand sew the top of the lining to the inside of the handmade bag, below the drawstring.
I also have free patterns for several other drawstring bags - choose from - picot edge, puff stitch, jewelry bag., tote bag, afghan shoulder bag, pink flower purse and flower coin purse, and handmade purse.
