Measurements: Each granny square approximately 15cm [6ins] square.
Tension: First 3 rows – approximately 7cm [2.75ins] across.
Stitches: Treble, Chain, Slip Stitch.
1st & 2nd Granny Square Motif - Work 45 in pink and 45 in cream.
Begin by working 8ch, join with a ss to form a ring.
1st Round: Work 3ch, 2tr into ring, [2ch. 3tr into ring 2ch] 3 times, ss in 1st of 3ch.
2nd Round: Work 3ch, *1tr in each tr to corner, [2 tr, 2ch, 2tr] in corner sp. Repeat from * to 1st 3ch, 1ss in 3rd of 3ch.
3rd – 7th Round: Work as 2nd Round. Fasten off.
3rd Granny Square Motif - Work 45 alike.
Begin by working 8ch [in cream], join with a ss to form a ring.
1st Round: Work 3ch, 2tr into ring, [2ch. 3tr into ring 2ch] 3 times, ss in 1st of 3ch. Fasten off.
2nd Round: Join pink in 2ch corner sp. Work 3ch, 2 tr, 2ch, 3tr in corner sp, [2ch, 3tr, 2ch, 3tr] in each corner sp, finishing with 2ch 1ss in 3rd of 1st 3ch. Fasten off.
3rd – Round: Join white in 2ch corner sp. Work 3ch, 2 tr, 2ch, 3tr in corner sp, *[2ch, 3tr in next 2ch sp] to corner, [2ch, 3tr, 2ch, 3tr] in corner sp. Repeat from * finishing with 2ch, 1ss in 3rd of 1st 3ch. Fasten off.
4th Round: Join bergundy in 2ch corner sp. Work as 3rd Round. Fasten off.
5th Round: Join pink in 2ch corner sp. Work as 3rd Round. 3rd Round. Fasten off.
6th Round: Join cream in 2ch corner sp. Work as 3rd Round. Fasten off.
7th Round: Join burgundy in 2ch corner sp. Work as 3rd Round. Fasten off.
4th Granny Square Motif - Work 45 alike.
Work as 3rd motif, only reverse 5th and 6th rounds.
To make up – Thread darning needle with burgundy yarn and sew motifs together using a flat seam.
I found it easier to lay all motifs flat on the floor 15 rows long, 12 rows wide. Begin the 1st row with a cream motif, followed by a 4th motif, then a pink motif, followed by a 3rd motif … Sew the seam between rows 1 & 2 all the way across, following with the seam between rows 3 & 4 etc. until all seams in this direction are sewn. Then join the seams running the opposite way.
I finished my blanket with a tassel on each corner. You may use fringing if you prefer.
