My free crochet scarf pattern is worked in 5ply wool using a 5.00mm crochet hook. It is a much lighter, more open design than my knitted pattern. The stitches used are chain, trebles, puff stitch [draw up 3 loops only]. The edges are finished with fringing. For a different option, you might like to make tassels instead of fringing.
If the terminology used in this pattern differs from what you're used to, check my equivalency tables for easy conversion.
Materials: Depending on the length of the scarf you require, 200 – 300 grams 5ply wool, 5.00mm crochet hook.
Tension: 1st 5 rows = Approximately 5cm [2ins]

CROCHET SCARF PATTERN
Begin by working 37 chain.
1st Row: Work 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end, 3ch, turn.
2nd Row: Work 1tr into each tr to end, finishing with 1tr into top of 1st 3ch st., 3ch turn.
3rd Row: As 2nd Row.
4th Row: Work 3ch, *miss next st, work 1 puff st into next tr, 2ch, repeat from * to end of row finishing with 1ch after last puff st, 1tr into top of 3ch, 3ch turn.
5th Row: Work 3ch, *1tr into puff st, 1tr into sp, repeat from* finishing with 1tr in last st, 3ch, turn.
These 5 rows form the pattern. Continue in this manner until scarf reaches desired length, finishing with 3 rows of tr.
Make fringing with 4 strands of wool [more if you wish], and attach them between the first and second stitch and every alternate stitch space at both ends of your crochet scarf.
The scarf may then be decorated with sequins or beads which may be stitched along all edges or just between the fringing as shown on my free hipster scarf pattern.
