For most of the twentieth century, particularly the first half, the popularity of crochet flowers was enormous. You’d find bedspreads, tablecloths, placemats, hats, sweaters and especially doilies adorned with almost any bloom you might have admired in a bouquet.
Renewed interest in handcraft projects, especially crocheted items, has created a new demand for these patterns. Crochet flower patterns used as accent pieces, are again very fashionable. These beautiful designs range from simple stylish motifs used in edgings and tablecloths, to 3d crochet floral patterns worked into doilies, bedspreads and placemats.
A red rose symbolizes a romantic Valentine day gift.
Thousands of people enjoy the art of flower arranging, the outdoors and gardening are so popular nowadays. This interest spills over into crochet. Stand your vase on a doily edged with beautiful blooms, or on a carnation tablecloth.
The crochet roses shown above are to form the center of the doily. In contrast, the centerpiece at right has the rose crochet pattern worked as a featured edge. Rose crochet patterns are many and varied, from the 3d crochet flower designs shown here, to flat crochet floral patterns.
The crochet daisy motif shown at left can be used as a decoration on a hat, headband, sweater or scarf. On a crochet hat, a ring of crochet daisies may be used as a decorative band, or position just a couple of blooms on one side.
