"Crochet Flower Hat"

My free crochet flower hat pattern will fit an average size lady’s head. It is decorated with 2 crochet daisy motifs which are hand sewn to one side. This stylish headpiece is very warm and comfortable to wear. They scrunch down so they can be carried in a handbag or pocket without damaging the shape at all.

This crochet flower hat is made from synthetic yarn and therefore may be machine washed. It is created using only a few very basic stitches, and therefore could easily be worked by a beginner. Only a basic knowledge of increasing and decreasing is necessary. My crochet flower hat pattern is worked in continuous rounds.

It is decorated with a crochet daisy. This motif is also used to decorate coin purses.

For a different effect you may like to decorate your hat with pompoms instead of the crochet daisy motifs shown here. Sunflowers, rosettes, crochet butterflies, and Christmas stars, trees,and presents make pretty accessories too. Worked in red and/or white, here is a great Valentine gift.

Crochet Flower Hat

Materials: 100g ball 8ply synthetic yarn [pink], 5.00mm crochet hook

Tension: First 8 rows = Approximately 3.75cm [1.5 ins].

Stitches: Chain, Double Crochet, Treble, Slip Stitch.

*Mark the 1st st of each round with a piece of yarn or a safety pin.

Begin by working 5ch and joining with a ss to form a ring.

1st Round: Work 12dc into ring.

2nd Round: *Work 1dc into next dc, 2dc into next dc. Repeat from * to end of round.

3rd Round: *Work 2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 2dc. Repeat from * to end of round. [24dc]

4th – 6th Round: *Work 2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 3dc. Repeat from * to end of round.

7th Round: *Work 2dc into next dc, 1dc into each of next 4dc. Repeat from * to end of round, finishing with 2dc in last st. [59sts]

8th Round: Increase by 5sts. [64sts]

9th – 18th Round: Work 1tr into each st.

19th Round: *Work 1tr into each of next 2tr, decrease over next 2tr. Repeat from * to end of round, finishing with 1tr into each of next 2tr.

20th Round: Work 1dc into each tr.

21st Round: Work 2dc into each dc.

22nd Round: Work 1dc into each dc.

Continue working as per 22nd Round until brim of crochet flower hat is wide enough - approximately 10cm [4ins].

Finish with 1ss into 1st dc of previous round. Fasten off.

Crochet Flower Free Pattern – Crochet Daisy Motif

Materials: No.10 crochet cotton [white], variegated orange crochet cotton, 1.50mm crochet hook.

Measurements: Approximately 4.5cm [1.75ins]

Stitches: Chain, Slip Stitch, Double Crochet, Triple Treble.

Begin by working 9ch and joining with a ss to form a ring. Fasten off.

Join white crochet thread in same place as ss.

*Work 5ch, 2triptr cluster, 5ch, ss into base of petal, miss 1dc, ss into next dc. Repeat from * to end of round. Fasten off. [12 petals]

If you would prefer to make a ring of crochet daisies to use as a hat band, instead of attaching 2 blooms as shown here, work as follows:- Complete the 1st crochet daisy, work 2nd daisy joining to 1st with a ss from the tip of cluster. Work 3rd crochet daisy joining in the same manner as No.2, being sure to have 5 petals above and below joining petals. When joining the last crochet daisy, join one petal to previous motif and one to 1st motif. Fasten off.

My afghan shoulder tote bag and coin purse are also decorated with this same motif.

A sunflower motif would also look very attractive resting on the side of this item. So would a bow, or the wearer's initial.
