"Baby Blanket "

This blanket pattern is created from very basic stitches, is warm and cuddly, yet also delicate looking enough to be used as a christening shawl.

A wide array of wonderfully colored yarn is available, from bright solids to variegated ones. My pattern is worked in pale baby pink, however feel free to use any color that suits your baby’s nursery or outfits. This pattern would look very effective worked in variegated yarn also. Simple patterns like this one show off the beauty of variegated yarn very well. Another variation would be to work in stripes, or to make the edging a different color from the main body.

When crocheting baby shawls, afghan bed rugs, zodiac blankets, or anything else for that matter, a good rule to remember to get the most pleasing effect from your work is - "The more intricate your stitch design is, the plainer your yarn should be. The more interesting the yarn is, the simpler your pattern should be."

With some yarn and a simple hook, you can create pattern and texture in any shape. Once learned, a few basic stitches can be combined in many ways to form beautiful stitch patterns and motifs. The possibilities are endless when it comes to blankets.

Monogram your baby's initial into the corner of his/her blanket. Click on the links below for my free letter patterns.
