Assemble Crochet Blanket


Having completed your granny squares, it is now time to assemble your crochet blanket! You may join squares by sewing with a darning needle, or you may crochet squares together. Instructions are shown in full below for how to crochet squares together, and how to sew granny squares together. The final step is to work the edging.

Materials: Main Color – 1 100g ball 8ply burgundy yarn, 5.00mm crochet hook, darning needle [if you choose to sew your crochet blanket together with a flat seam rather than crochet squares together].

Stitches: Treble, Chain, Slip Stitch.

Assemble Crochet Blanket

Lay all motifs flat on the floor as shown on the grid.

To Sew Granny Squares - Thread darning needle with burgundy yarn and sew motifs together using a flat seam as below.


Step [1] Fold top row over 2nd row of granny squares so that right sides are facing each other.

Step [2] Attach yarn in corner space at one end of row. Sew the seam between granny squares on rows 1 & 2 all the way across. Fasten off.

Step [3] Fold 2nd row of granny squares over 3rd row of granny squares.

Step [4] Sew the seam between rows 3 & 4 etc. until all seams in this direction are sewn.

Then join the seams running the opposite way in the same manner.

Crochet Squares Together

Step [1] Arrange granny squares as per grid.

Step [2] Fold top row over 2nd row of granny squares so that right sides are facing each other.

Step [3] Working through both motifs, join yarn in corner space of granny squares. Work 1 row of dc along edge of motifs forming a seam that joins all motifs in 1st line to motifs in 2nd line. Fasten off when you complete this row.

Step [4] Fold 2nd row of granny squares over 3rd row of granny squares.

Step [5] Repeat Step 3 to join squares in 3rd line to those in 2nd line. Continue until all rows of squares are joined, then work the seams running the opposite way in the same manner.

Once your zodiac granny square blanket is assembled, you may finish it off with an edging as shown below.

Edging

1st Round: Begin in top left corner space.Join yarn in top left cnr sp with ss. Work 3ch, 2tr in corner sp, 3ch, miss 3sts, *3tr in next st, 3ch. Repeat from *10 times. 1tr in cnr sp, 1tr in join between granny squares, 1tr in next cnr sp, 3ch. **Miss 3sts, 3tr in next sp, 3ch. Repeat from ** to next join between granny squares. Work 1tr in cnr sp, 1tr in join between granny squares, 1tr in next cnr sp, 3ch.

Continue in pattern until you reach bottom left corner of rug. Work 3tr, 2ch, 3tr in corner sp, 3ch.

Continue working in pattern as per left edge of blanket, to top left corner sp, finishing with 3ch, 3tr into top left corner sp, 2ch, ss into 3rd of first 3ch.

2nd Round: Ss in top of each of next 2tr, ss in next sp, 3ch, 2tr into same sp, *2ch,**3tr in next sp, 2ch. Repeat from ** to corner sp. Work 3tr, 2ch, 3tr into corner sp,. Repeat from * 3 times. Finish with 2ch, 1ss into 3rd of 1st 3ch. Fasten off.

You may finish your crochet blanket with fringing if you prefer, or a tassel on each corner.
