My Afghan Baby Pin Cushion Pattern is ideal for a beginner to tackle, especially if you’ve never attempted Afghan Stitch before. It’s simple, easy to follow, and there’s no increasing or decreasing [shaping] to be concerned with.
The Tunisian Stitch creates a strong, closely worked fabric which is ideal for holding pins. The flowers used to decorate the pincushion are worked separately and sewn on with a darning needle with a blunt end.
This is a project which you can make to use up left over yarn from other items if you wish. Consider making the two sides in different colored yarn for example, and the flowers in varying colors. I filled the pincushion with fiber fill, but you could use foam if you prefer. The edging is worked in trebles and double crochet, and you will find detailed directions on how to create these stitches in my e-book “CROCHET MADE EASY”,that you can purchase here. Happy Crocheting!
Afghan Baby Pin Cushion Materials: Tunisian Crochet Hook size 4.5mm, at least 15cm[6ins]long.8ply yarn of your choice, darning needle with blunt end, filling.
Work flowers as follows: Work 3ch, join with ss to form a ring. 3ch, 1tr into center ring, 3ch, ss into center ring.[one petal made] Make 4 more petals the same way. End off. Cut yarn leaving approximately 12cm [4.75ins] for sewing flowers onto pin cushion. Thread yarn through darning needle and pass needle through center ring [front to back] pulling firmly. Sew flowers onto pincushion leaving end on wrong side.
Joining the two sides: With wrong sides facing inwards, join the two sides together with 1 round of dc, remembering to insert fill before fourth side is complete. End round with ss into 1st dc.
Edge: Miss next dc. *Work 5tr into next dc, miss next dc, 1dc into next dc, miss next dc. Repeat from * to end of row, ending with ss into 1st dc. Fasten off.
